Firebird Students and Families,
We are heading into another great week at Challenger! It has been wonderful watching our students settle into their routines, reconnect with friends, and begin finding their place in our school community. Thank you, families, for your continued support as we get the year underway.
A VERY IMPORTANT REMINDER FOR FRIDAY: FALL PICTURES!
Fall pictures will be taken this Friday. These are the pictures that will be used in the Challenger yearbook, so we want ALL students to be ready for their picture!
Seniors: Friday is also Senior Makeup Picture Day. If you did not have your senior picture taken previously, please make sure you are prepared to have it taken on Friday. We want every member of our senior class represented in the yearbook!
Please take a few minutes to look over everything happening this week. There are lots of opportunities to get involved, and I encourage our students to find ways to be part of Challenger beyond the classroom.
As we continue through these first few weeks, remember that being a Firebird means showing up, working hard, supporting one another, and taking pride in our school. We are excited about the year ahead and all that our students are going to accomplish.

If you have not already done so, please complete the Free/Reduced Lunch Application. Paper copies are available in the office, but you may apply online at this link: http://www.linqconnect.com/
- Please refer to the email sent last week about dress code as a reminder of the expectations.
- There are still boxes of candy bars left if you would like to sell them. See Ms. Lowe to pick up a box.
- Students interested in joining "Hearts for Hunger" meet in the Bullpen for lunch on Tuesday.
- Families, please help us keep students safe during drop-off and pick-up by using the parking lot only. Students are NOT permitted to be dropped off or picked up on the main CVCC road. This is a CVCC expectation.
- If you are a driver and have not received a parking pass, please pick one up in the office and return it to Mrs. Sevier. Parking passes are required for all Challenger students.

Good evening, CCS Families,
We are ready to IGNITE the 2026-27 school year and would like to thank each of you
for your support in making our start one of the best to date! We truly value our
partnership, and as such, I want to take this opportunity to remind you that you
have choices in your child’s education.
Catawba County Schools is committed to empowering parents and guardians to
make decisions about curriculum resources used in the classroom. Per CCS Board
Policy, 3.6100, parents have the right to inspect all instructional and supplementary
materials used in connection with any applicable federally funded program. Parents
also may review all other instructional materials following procedures provided by
the school or superintendent.
We trust our teachers to keep you informed of upcoming classroom activities and
deliver engaging lessons with grade-level appropriate supplemental materials. If
you are uncomfortable with the activities or supplemental resources, please reach
out to your classroom teacher first. We often can provide a different supplemental
activity to meet your child’s needs. Other classroom adaptations may need to take
place to support the request. Students do not, however, have an option to opt out
of state-mandated assessments.
Finally, you, as the parent/guardian, may choose which books your child can access
in the school library. We want to remind our families that you have the ability to
search Follett Destiny, our digital media catalog, through your school’s website, and
you may choose to “flag” particular book titles to ensure that your child does not
have access to any materials that you find objectionable. If you have questions
about this process, please contact your school media coordinator.
You may find our Follett Destiny Library and our current list of Challenged Media
Resources on our district website under “Students & Families.”
We are fortunate to have a diverse population of students in our schools. Our goal
is to support our students and parents and balance the workload for our teachers.
We have not changed any of these instructional procedures this year, but we did
want to ensure that all parents are informed. Our teachers will continue to teach
the standard course of study, using supplemental materials that are grade-level
appropriate and that inspire our students.
